Butser Ancient Farm

Posted by on October 19, 2019

On Wednesday, Ash and Oak class visited Butser Ancient farm as part of their Stone Age topic in History.

We sat in a Stone Age style house around an open fire which was quite smoky! Karen and Holly from Butser Ancient Farm told us lots about the history of the Stone Age and then we did some exciting activities.

First we made sketchings in chalk using flint and green leaves for colour, then we became archaeologists digging for evidence carefully using trowels and brushes to find artefacts. After lunch outside, we wattled wood to make a fence in pairs and finally we used wire to create a piece of jewellery – either a pendant for a necklace, a bracelet or a ring.

It was a fantastic trip and we can’t wait to use this in our learning during Topic lessons.
